Apollo Lunar Module Explosive Device (ED) Relay Box, 1 each were installed onboard the LM Ascent and Descent Stage to transfer crew commands inputed from the ED control panel to firing voltages which actuated pryrotechnic devices during sequenced events during the lunar mission. These events included triggering of Main Propulsion and Reaction Control System (RCS) helium isolation valves, interstage umbilicle and structural connection cutters which separated the Ascent stage from the Descent stage during lunar liftoff; and severing of the landing gear uplocks which retaining the landing gear it its retracted/stowed configuration until extraction of the LM from the Saturn V's SLA.
